Earth Institute Travel Grant Program
The Earth Institute Travel Grant Program makes it possible for Columbia University students to work on a variety of sustainable development and environmental projects nationally and internationally. Research must be affiliated with projects for which students will receive academic credit towards their degree programs at Columbia University. Individual students may apply for up to $750 in funding and groups may apply for up to $2,000 (groups should submit one application; there are no restrictions on the number of students per group). All students who receive funding are required to participate in the Student Research Showcase, which is hosted by the Earth Institute in the spring. Current Columbia University undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral students pursuing research related to sustainability and the environment are eligible to apply. Applications are only accepted for future travel.
To apply, please submit an application HERE by Sunday, February 10 at 11:55 p.m.
Global Fellows in Sustainable Development Program
In order to understand the dynamics of globalization and the interconnections of our social and natural systems, students are encouraged to experience and research these issues in the field. The Global Fellows in Sustainable Development Program enables the Earth Institute, through a generous gift, to support field research for current Columbia University undergraduates studying sustainable development, either in the special concentration or the major. The grant provides an opportunity for students to undertake fieldwork, research assistantships or internships related to their sustainable development studies. This program will ensure that the challenges presented by globalization are not abstract ideas, and that students are able to gain practical experience outside of the classroom in the critical areas of sustainable development they have studied. All students who receive funding are required to participate in the Student Research Showcase, which is hosted by the Earth Institute in the spring.
Awards vary in amount according to individual project needs. Funding will only be awarded for fieldwork explicitly related to a recipient’s degree requirements or that which furthers his or her studies in the Program in Sustainable Development. Current full-time Columbia undergraduates in the Program in Sustainable Development are eligible to apply provided they are in good academic standing. Application information is available HERE. The deadline is to apply is Friday, February 22 at 11:55 p.m.
