MPA in Environmental Science & Policy Program Ranked #3 in U.S. News & World Report

The Master of Public Administration in Environmental Science and Policy (MPA-ESP) placed third in U.S. News and World Report’s Graduate School rankings for programs in environmental policy and management within the category of Public Affairs.

“We are so pleased to be grouped among the nation’s top ten best programs in environmental policy,” said the MPA-ESP program’s Assistant Director, Sarah Tweedie. “I have always known that our students are smart, capable, and driven individuals who want to make the planet a more viable place to live for everyone. This ranking just reiterates that fact.”

Students in the MPA in Environmental Science and Policy (MPA-ESP) program enroll in a year-long, 54-credit program offered at Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs (SIPA), in partnership with the Earth Institute. Throughout this one year program, students are immersed in courses that combine Columbia University’s hands-on approach to teaching public policy and administration with pioneering thinking about the environment. During the summer semester, students learn the fundamentals of environmental science, while the fall and spring semesters focus on teaching the policy and economics necessary to becoming successful environmental analysts and managers. AGU25, the premier Earth and space science conference, takes place December 15-19, 2025 in New Orleans, Louisiana. This year’s theme—Where Science Connects Us—puts in focus how science depends on connection, from the lab to the field to the ballot box. Once again, Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory and Columbia Climate School scientists, experts, students, and educators are playing an active role, sharing our research and helping shape the future of our planet. #AGU25 Learn More
