EI Exhibits Wares at mHealth Summit in Washington

From November 8-10, more than 2000 attendees will come together at the 2010 mHealth Summit in Washington, D.C. to explore the many ways in which mobile technology is being leveraged to improve the health and well-being of millions of people through the world. Over 175 experts and leaders are scheduled to speak, with special Keynote addresses by Bill Gates, Co-chair and Trustee of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, and Judith Rodin, the President of the Rockefeller Foundation. With 185 poster presentations, 150 exhibitors, 40 Super and Concurrent sessions, and 48 countries represented, the summit provides a diverse platform to discuss how mobile technology can be used to save lives and improve health outcomes, while preventing and mitigating the effects of poor health around the world. The Earth Institute mHealth team will be on site in the exhibitor’s area at Booth 512 with their long-time partner UNICEF. Among the dynamic group of participants is the Earth Institute, whose work will be highlighted through panel discussions (2), exhibits (1), and poster presentations (4). On Tuesday, November 9, from 10AM to 1:15PM, the Center for Global Health and Economic Development’s (CGHED) Patricia Mechael will join a Panel Session: Learned Lessons across the Globe to reflect on over 10 years of work researching, advising on policies, and implementing mHealth programs in low and middle income countries. She will also serve as a discussant in the afternoon panel on the convergence of mobile money and mobile health.

Two poster presentations will focus on the Earth Institute’s work on research and policy, namely “Evaluations Impact of Health Information Technology Applied to Clinics and Communities: The Millennium Global Village-Network” led by Bennet Nemser and “Making mHealth a Reality: Findings and Recommendations from the White Paper, ‘Barriers and Gaps Affecting mHealth in Low and Middle Income Countries’” led by Hima Batavia. The other two posters will highlight the applications work led by Matt Berg, including one on a ChildCount+ Prevention of Mother-to-Child Transmission of HIV with Casey Iiams-Hauser and an SMS-based Disease Surveillance Platform implemented in Uganda with Yanis Ben Amor and colleagues from FIND.
