Riding for Change: MSSM Student Rides 300 Miles to Raise Awareness about Sustainability Issues

May is Bike Month in New York City, and, as many groups will be holding events to celebrate, MS in Sustainability Management student Scott Miller will be celebrating in his own way: by riding 300 miles to Washington, D.C., to raise awareness for climate change issues and to raise funds supporting the Earth Institute’s sustainability initiatives. Through a five-day event run through the non-profit organization Climate Ride, Miller will travel with more than 150 like-minded people united by a passion for sustainability, renewable energy and bicycles.

Miller is passionate about many things relating to the environment: recycling, climate change adaptation, and sustainability metrics, to name a few. That’s why he’s decided to meld two of his greatest interests, cycling and raising public awareness for environmental issues. “Climate Ride is a wonderful platform for cycling advocacy and increasing public awareness relating to sustainable development issues” Miller said. “It is a perfect combination of one of my favorite hobbies with my career aspirations in sustainability management.”

On May 19, Miller will set off with other cyclists who will be raising money for several non-profit organizations leading the nation in climate change awareness, green energy development, sustainability and bicycle advocacy. In Washington, Miller will meet with three members of Congress to talk about sustainability issues.

To participate in this event, Miller will have to raise at least $2,400 to qualify. If you’d like to support this project and make a tax-deductible donation in support of Scott Miller’s Climate Ride fundraising to benefit the Earth Institute, visit: http://bike.climateride.org/participant/CUCSD.
