In a new initiative, the Earth Institute (EI) is opening its doors to faculty, scientists, researchers, and staff from any part of Columbia who wish to engage more deeply in Earth Institute activities.
Columbia’s Earth Institute blends research in the physical, engineering, health and social sciences; education; and practical solutions to help guide the world onto a path toward sustainability. The Earth Institute comprises interdisciplinary scholars across numerous research centers and programs. Together, we are enriching our understanding of how the planet works and how humans are affecting natural systems.
We recognize the extraordinary amount of scholarship taking place around the environment, climate, energy, and sustainability at every school at Columbia, and that there is wide interest in connecting these scholars with each other and with the Earth Institute’s existing network of faculty and researchers. Any faculty member, researcher, or staff person of any discipline, department, or school at Columbia, whose work touches on sustainability, is welcome to join the Earth Institute in this new program.
Affiliates will receive a range of benefits by being part of the EI community. They can apply for seed funding for interdisciplinary research, and other funding for internships, research assistants, and course support, and take advantage of exciting programs like the Earth Institute Postdoctoral Research Program.
They also can attend EI town halls and other events, meetings and trainings, and network with colleagues with related research interests. Affiliates can contribute to and be featured in Earth Institute newsletters, blogs, events and more.
Click here for a full list of benefits and resources available to the entire Earth Institute community. And a quick reminder for current EI employees and EI faculty — you already have access to all of these resources, so do not need to sign up for the Affiliates program.
The goal of this new, free program is to make the Earth Institute more open and inclusive, and connect and network people across Columbia more broadly. Please help us spread the word by sharing this message with anyone who might be interested in joining the Earth Institute. To become an Affiliate, simply complete the form here.
The Affiliates program is not currently targeted towards Columbia University students. Current students should check in here for how to engage with the Earth Institute. Prospective students can learn about our education programs here.
Please note those external to Columbia are not eligible for this Affiliates program at this time, though we are seeking greater engagement with the wider community outside Columbia in a variety of other ways.
