The White House “Champions of Change” program identifies innovators across the country who are doing extraordinary work in their field of practice. This summer, the White House honored eleven people as “Champions of Change” in the Public Health and Climate arena. The 11 honorees included Kizzy Charles-Guzman, a faculty member in the M.S. in Sustainability Management program. Charles-Guzman has acted as a faculty advisor for the program’s Integrative Capstone Workshop course since its launch in the Spring 2011 semester.

As the Director of the Climate and Health Program at the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DOHMH), Charles-Guzman is advancing efforts to develop strategies to help both prepare for and respond to the adverse health impacts of climate change. Together with the Health Department, she has helped implement a Climate and Health program which not only raises awareness about the health consequences that can arise from a climate change but also, identifies the most vulnerable communities and aims to help make them sustainable and resilient to the effects of a changing climate.

AGU25, the premier Earth and space science conference, takes place December 15-19, 2025 in New Orleans, Louisiana. This year’s theme—Where Science Connects Us—puts in focus how science depends on connection, from the lab to the field to the ballot box. Once again, Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory and Columbia Climate School scientists, experts, students, and educators are playing an active role, sharing our research and helping shape the future of our planet. #AGU25 Learn More
