Fund Pledges $2.5 Million for Disaster Preparedness Center

The National Center for Disaster Preparedness at the Earth Institute maintains a strong working partnership with the Children’s Health Fund, a national organization that supports pediatric care for underserved children. Over the past decade, the center has engaged in a number of projects funded by the fund, which recently announced its renewed support with a $2.5 million pledge.

Gift Launches New Research Program on Sustainability

With a $500,000 gift in seed funding provided by Kingfull Ding, the Earth Institute is launching the Research Program on Sustainability Policy and Management under the direction of Professor Steven Cohen, executive director of the Earth Institute. The program will provide a rigorous analytic base to better understand important sustainability issues and to develop more effective public policies and organizational practices.

Auction Proceeds to Benefit the Millennium Villages

Renowned collector and Wall Street money manager William H. Gross sold pieces from his unparalleled U.S. stamp collection for the first time at an auction at the Robert A. Siegel Auction Galleries here in New York on April 9. Since 2008, Bill and his wife Sue have donated over $19 million to the Millennium Villages project, and they continued their generosity by donating the proceeds from the auction to the Earth Institute and to Doctors Without Borders.

Join Us in Honoring One of the Founders of Earth Day

Today, in honor of Earth Day 2013, the Earth Institute is proud to honor an extraordinary woman who played a pioneering role in shaping how the world thinks about making our planet more sustainable for present and future generations. The late Marilyn Laurie, a Barnard graduate, was a stay-at-home mother of two young girls when she saw a notice in the Village Voice inviting people to a planning meeting for what would eventually become Earth Day.
