The Earth Institute is seeking an intern to work with the Office of Academic and Research Programs, primarily supporting the Undergraduate Program in Sustainable Development (UPSD). The program, which includes a major and a special concentration, teaches students to address the fundamental issue of how to move toward a trajectory of sustainability that will allow future generations to pursue further progress in human well-being without causing irreparable harm to the planet. The intern will divide their time between program administration for UPSD, and outreach and marketing for the Earth Institute’s graduate programs. Support may also be sought for the Earth Institute’s professional development and alumni activities. The ideal candidate will have experience in communications, event coordination and working in a highly professional environment on a diverse range of projects.
Responsibilities:
Responsibilities will include but will not be limited to: updating and generating web content; contributing to social media strategy, event planning and staffing; drafting and editing articles/profiles; updating program materials; managing large contact databases and cold-calling for outreach for specific programs.
Skills Required:
- Applicants should be highly motivated, detail oriented and possess strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience with social media, including Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and MailChimp (optional), as well as MS Office tools such as Excel, Word and PowerPoint is required.
- The ideal candidate will be personable, pro-active and able to work in a fast-paced environment while remaining organized and precise.
- A strong interest in the environment and sustainable development is preferred, but not required.
Type of Student desired:
Graduate or undergraduate rising junior or senior. Students who are enrolled in or plan to declare the sustainable development major/special concentration are not eligible to apply.
Compensation:
$16/hour, 10-15 hours/week. Position to start as soon as possible.
